Chartered Accountants for Chennai, from the auto corridor to OMR

TaxCaller India LLP gives local businesses and individuals access to qualified Chartered Accountants and tax experts for GST, income tax, TDS, books and ROC work, all handled online.

In short: TaxCaller works as an online CA firm in Chennai for factories, exporters, traders, startups and salaried people. You send papers on WhatsApp or email, we talk on call, and every return goes to the government portal from our side. You never have to visit an office.

People search for a CA firm in Chennai when something specific is due: a GST notice from the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department, a buyer in Oragadam asking for e-invoices, an annual filing pending with the ROC, or an RSU vesting that has confused the salary slip. Our job is to take that one problem, fix it properly, and then set up the routine so it does not come back.

The city is not one kind of economy. The automotive corridor from Gummidipoondi in the north down to Maraimalai Nagar carries carmakers such as Hyundai at Irungattukottai and Renault-Nissan and Daimler at Oragadam, with hundreds of component suppliers feeding them. Chennai Port, Kamarajar Port at Ennore and Kattupalli move the exports. Along Rajiv Gandhi Salai, the old Mahabalipuram Road, sit TIDEL Park, the SIPCOT IT Park at Siruseri and a long line of IT and ITES offices. Then there are the small units of Guindy and Ambattur, the wholesale traders of George Town, and doctors and consultants across the city.

Each of these groups needs different things from a Chartered Accountant. A tier-2 supplier worries about job work challans and ITC-04. An exporter worries about refunds stuck for months. A software engineer in Sholinganallur worries about Schedule FA and foreign shares. A new private limited company in Velachery mostly needs someone to remind the directors that AOC-4 and MGT-7 are not optional.

How we work with you

TaxCaller India LLP has worked since 2018 with a network of qualified Chartered Accountants and tax experts. For clients here, the whole service runs online:

  • You share invoices, bank statements and notices on WhatsApp, email or upload.
  • We discuss the position on a call, in English, and explain what is due and why.
  • Returns, replies and forms are filed on the GST, income tax and MCA portals.
  • The fee is told to you before work starts. The first call is free.

If you need regular bookkeeping, see our accounting and bookkeeping services. For monthly returns alone, our GST return filing plan may be enough. Most businesses start with one service and add others once they see how the work is handled.

What does a CA firm in Chennai actually handle for you?

A CA firm handles your tax returns, statutory filings, books and replies to department notices, so that your GSTIN, PAN and company records stay clean.

The scope depends on what kind of entity you run. Below is how the work usually splits for the people who call us from the city.

You areRegular workUsual pressure point
Proprietor trader in Parrys or T. NagarGSTR-1, GSTR-3B, ITR-3 or ITR-4, bank reconciliationCredit not showing in GSTR-2B because a supplier filed late
Component supplier near SriperumbudurE-invoices, e-way bills, ITC-04, TDS, tax auditBuyer debit notes and rate disputes on parts
Exporter shipping through Chennai PortLUT, refund claims, GSTR-1 export tables, foreign remittance recordsIGST refund held because of a mismatch in shipping bill data
Private limited startup on OMRBooks, payroll TDS, AOC-4, MGT-7, ADT-1, DPT-3Missed INC-20A or a late annual filing with fees adding up
Salaried employee or NRIITR-1 or ITR-2, AIS check, Form 67 for foreign tax creditRSUs and foreign bank accounts left out of the return

For a small trader, a CA firm is mostly about monthly discipline. For a company, the role widens: directors need someone who keeps the statutory calendar, checks the accounts before audit, and reads a notice before anyone replies to it.

One thing we tell every new client: the GST portal and the income tax portal now talk to each other. Your GSTR-3B turnover, your TDS credits in Form 26AS, and your bank deposits in the AIS all get compared. A gap of a few lakhs between them is enough for a system notice. Good compliance today means making those three numbers agree before you file, not explaining the difference later.

That is why our first month with any business is spent reconciling. We pull the last year of returns, compare them line by line, and give you a short note of what is fine, what is risky, and what needs correction while the window to amend is still open.

Auto parts suppliers on the Oragadam belt: job work challans and ITC-04

If you send material out for machining, plating or heat treatment, GST lets you do it without paying tax on the transfer, but only if the challan trail and ITC-04 are kept correctly.

The Chennai automotive corridor runs on job work. A forging shop in Ambattur sends blanks to a CNC unit in Thirumazhisai, which sends them on to a plating vendor, and the finished part reaches a plant in Oragadam. GST allows this chain without tax at each step, as long as the principal keeps control on paper.

The rules that matter

  • Inputs sent to a job worker must come back, or be supplied from the job worker's premises, within one year. For moulds, dies, jigs and other capital goods the limit is three years.
  • If the time limit passes, the law treats the goods as supplied on the day they were first sent out. You then owe GST with interest from that date.
  • Form ITC-04 reports what went out and what came back. Principals with aggregate turnover above Rs 5 crore file it every half year; smaller principals file once a year.
  • Movement to a job worker still needs an e-way bill when the value crosses the limit (and for a job worker in another state, whatever the value), even though no tax is charged on the challan.
SituationWhat we checkFix if it has gone wrong
Dies lying at a vendor for four yearsDate on the original challanPay tax on deemed supply, then regularise the record
Scrap left at the job workerWhether the job worker is registeredJob worker supplies scrap on his GSTIN, or principal pays tax
Rejected parts sent back by OEMCredit note and GSTR-1 amendmentIssue the credit note by 30 November after the year end and report it
ITC-04 never filedChallan register for each periodFile pending periods from the challan data before a notice arrives

Example: an auto parts supplier learns about ITC-04 only when a departmental audit asks for it. The challans exist, usually in a cupboard, but nobody has matched them to returns. The cleanup is tedious but very doable: we build a challan register from your books, match each line to inward receipts, and file the pending forms. The earlier this is done, the smaller the interest.

Example: a buyer in the corridor raises a debit note for a price revision months after supply. If the credit note on your side is not issued and reported in the right period, your GSTR-1 and the buyer's books will never match. We set up a simple monthly check with your sales team so that price revisions are reported in time.

Exporting through Chennai Port or Kamarajar Port: LUT, refunds and shipping bills

Exports are zero-rated under GST, so either you export under LUT without paying tax and claim back input credit, or you pay IGST and get it refunded through the shipping bill.

The city's export trade covers cars, leather, garments, engineering goods, seafood and software services. Goods move through Chennai Port, Kamarajar Port at Ennore and Kattupalli. Services usually leave through an invoice and a SWIFT message. The GST rules for both are the same in principle, but the paperwork is very different.

RouteHow it worksWhere it usually gets stuck
Export under LUTFile RFD-11 for the year, export without IGST, claim unused input credit through RFD-01LUT not renewed before 1 April, so early exports go out without cover
Export with IGST paidShipping bill itself acts as the refund claim once GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B are filedInvoice number or value in GSTR-1 Table 6A not matching the shipping bill
Export of servicesInvoice in foreign currency, payment received in convertible foreign exchangeFIRC or bank advice missing, or payment received in INR from an Indian entity
Supply to SEZ unitZero-rated supply, endorsement by the SEZ authoritiesTreated like a domestic sale and taxed by mistake

A refund claim generally has to be filed within two years of the relevant date. That sounds generous, but small exporters often lose months because the first claim was rejected for a missing statement and nobody refiled.

What a software exporter on OMR should watch

A services company billing a US parent does not need customs paperwork, but it does need the LUT, an invoice that clearly shows export of services, and proof that the payment arrived in foreign exchange. Intermediary services and services where the supplier and recipient are related establishments of the same person are treated differently, and that is where many local IT subsidiaries go wrong. We read the agreement first and then decide how the invoice should be worded.

For goods exporters, we keep a monthly sheet that ties each shipping bill to its invoice, its GSTR-1 entry and its refund status on ICEGATE. When something gets stuck, we know exactly which number is wrong.

Salaried on Rajiv Gandhi Salai? RSUs, ESOPs and foreign assets in your return

If your employer is a foreign group and you hold its shares, your return almost always needs ITR-2 with Schedule FA, not the simple ITR-1 most colleagues use.

The IT corridor from Perungudi to Siruseri employs a large number of people who receive RSUs or ESOPs from a US or European parent. The tax treatment has two stages, and both cause trouble.

  1. At vesting or exercise: the value of the shares is a perquisite and gets taxed as salary. Your employer shows it in Form 16, usually with a sell-to-cover adjustment.
  2. At sale: the gain over that vesting value is a capital gain. Foreign shares are treated like unlisted shares here: long term only after 24 months, no Rs 1.25 lakh exemption, and short term gains taxed at your slab rate.

The part people miss is reporting. Any foreign shares, foreign bank accounts or brokerage accounts held by a resident must go in Schedule FA, even if the value is small and nothing was sold. The schedule follows the calendar year, not the financial year, which confuses most first-time filers.

Your situationForm usually neededExtra item
Only salary, one house, no foreign holdingsITR-1Check AIS for interest and dividend
Salary plus RSUs held abroadITR-2Schedule FA for the calendar year
Tax deducted in the US on dividendsITR-2Form 67 to claim foreign tax credit
Salary plus freelance or consultingITR-3Books or presumptive income for the side income
Returned to India after working abroadITR-2Residential status test for the year

For FY 2025-26 income, the new regime gives full rebate up to Rs 12 lakh of taxable income, so a salaried person with a Rs 75,000 standard deduction pays nothing up to Rs 12.75 lakh of salary. Above that, the choice between regimes depends on your home loan interest, HRA and 80C savings. We run both and show you the numbers.

The Income-tax Act, 2025 has applied from 1 April 2026. Returns for income earned up to 31 March 2026 are still filed under the old Act, so the ITR you file this year follows the familiar forms.

If your case is only salary and interest, our income tax filing service is quicker and cheaper than a full CA engagement.

Professional tax in Chennai is collected by the Corporation, not the GST office

Here, professional tax is a half-yearly local body tax paid to the Greater Chennai Corporation, and employers must deduct it from salaries.

Many new employers assume professional tax is handled by the Commercial Taxes Department, as it is in some states. In Tamil Nadu it is a local body levy. Within city limits, the Corporation collects it from employers, companies and people in a profession or trade.

The slabs work on half-yearly income. The Corporation revised them from the second half of 2024-25. The current table is below.

Half-yearly incomeProfessional tax per half year
Up to Rs 21,000Nil
Rs 21,001 to Rs 30,000Rs 180
Rs 30,001 to Rs 45,000Rs 425
Rs 45,001 to Rs 60,000Rs 930
Rs 60,001 to Rs 75,000Rs 1,025
Above Rs 75,000Rs 1,250

The two halves run April to September and October to March. The usual due dates are 30 September and 31 March. Employers recover each half's tax from salary before these dates and deposit it with the employee list.

Where local employers slip

  • They deduct the tax from salaries but deposit it late, or deposit it in a lump sum without the employee list.
  • A unit just outside Corporation limits, say in a municipality or town panchayat, pays a different local body at that body's rates.
  • The company forgets its own professional tax as an entity, separate from what it deducts for staff.

For employees, professional tax paid is deductible from salary only under the old regime. Under the new regime it does not reduce taxable income, so do not be surprised when your Form 16 shows no deduction for it.

Rates differ between local bodies in Tamil Nadu, so if your staff work from Coimbatore or Madurai as well, we check each body's current table before payroll is run.

Choosing a CA firm in Chennai: questions to ask before you hand over the books

Ask who will actually do your work, how you will hear about due dates, and what the fee covers. The answers tell you more than any brochure.

A Chartered Accountant's work is mostly invisible when it is done well. You only see it when something goes wrong. So judge a firm by how it explains things in the first conversation.

Five questions worth asking

  1. Who files my returns? You should know the person or team, and how a CA reviews the work before it goes to the portal.
  2. How will I know what is due? A shared calendar, a WhatsApp reminder, or a monthly note. Anything is fine as long as it is consistent.
  3. What happens when a notice comes? Ask whether replies are part of the fee or charged separately, and who drafts them.
  4. Is the fee fixed or open-ended? Get the scope in writing: how many invoices, how many employees, which returns.
  5. Can I get my data back? Your books, passwords and filed returns belong to you. A good firm hands them over without fuss.
What you needWhere to start
Monthly GST for a trading businessGST return filing
GST registration for a new shop or unitGST registration
Payroll and vendor TDS returnsTDS return filing
Opening a private limited company or LLPcompany registration
Planning tax across salary, business and capital gainstax consultant

When you speak to us, expect direct answers. If something is outside what we can do well online, such as a physical stock audit at your godown in Madhavaram, we will tell you so on the first call rather than accept the work and struggle with it.

Finally, ask how they handle Tamil Nadu specific matters. A CA firm in Chennai must know how the state GST office and the central GST commissionerates split taxpayers, and must be comfortable reading notices issued by either side.

Mistakes we fix most often for Chennai businesses

Most problems we see here come from a handful of habits: late supplier filings, ignored portal messages and accounts that are prepared only at year end.

These are the cases that reach us again and again. None of them are exotic. They are simply the gaps that grow when a busy owner has no one checking the monthly numbers.

1. Claiming credit that is not in GSTR-2B

Example: a trader books purchase bills and claims credit in GSTR-3B, but some suppliers file late or not at all. The credit is not in GSTR-2B. Months later, a DRC-01C intimation or a scrutiny notice asks for it back with interest. The fix is a monthly match before filing, and a polite but firm message to the suppliers who keep slipping.

2. Treating the AIS as someone else's problem

Fixed deposit interest, share sales, rent received and large cash deposits all show up in the Annual Information Statement. People file ITR-1 from Form 16 alone, leave out the interest, and receive a mismatch notice. We open the AIS before every return, not after.

3. ROC filings left for the auditor

Small private limited companies often assume the statutory auditor files AOC-4 and MGT-7. Many auditors only sign the accounts. When nobody files, additional fees run per day of delay, and directors can be disqualified after continuous default. We check the MCA master data of every new company client in the first week.

4. Wrong place of supply on services

Example: a consultant here bills a client in Bengaluru and charges CGST and SGST instead of IGST. The client cannot take the credit, and the consultant has to pay IGST again before claiming a refund of the wrong tax. A five-minute check on the invoice template prevents this.

5. Cash payments above the limit

Expenses paid in cash above Rs 10,000 to one person in a day (Rs 35,000 for payments to goods transport operators) are disallowed for income tax. Small units in the industrial estates still pay transporters and casual contractors in cash. We flag these during monthly bookkeeping, so the owner can move them to UPI or bank transfer.

If you recognise two or more of these in your own business, a short review call is worth it before the next return.

What to keep ready before you call us

Five or six documents let us understand a business in one call. Without them, the first conversation stays general.

You do not need a perfect file. Rough is fine. But the following items make the first call useful instead of a list of questions.

For a business

  • GSTIN and the login of the GST portal, or at least the last three GSTR-3B returns.
  • Bank statements of all current accounts for the last six months.
  • Last filed income tax return and computation, with the tax audit report if there was one.
  • Any notice or portal message you have received, even if you think it is minor.
  • For companies: CIN, the latest audited balance sheet and the list of directors with their DIN.

For a salaried person

  • Form 16 from each employer of the year.
  • AIS and Form 26AS downloaded from the e-filing portal.
  • Brokerage statements, RSU vesting reports and foreign account statements, if any.
  • Rent receipts, home loan certificate and investment proofs if you are thinking about the old regime.
If you have thisWe can usually tell you
Three months of GSTR-2B and purchase registerHow much credit is at risk
AIS plus Form 16Whether a mismatch notice is likely
MCA master data of the companyWhich annual filings are pending and the rough additional fee
A GST or income tax noticeThe deadline, what is being asked, and what to collect for the reply

Send these on WhatsApp or email before the call. We look through them first, so the call itself is short and specific. You will know by the end what is due, what can wait, and what the work will cost.

Please do not send passwords in a group chat or forward them to many people. Share them once, directly, and change them if staff who had access leave.

Annual company and LLP filings with ROC Chennai

Companies registered in the city file their annual returns and financial statements on the MCA portal, under the jurisdiction of the Registrar of Companies, Chennai.

The Registrar of Companies at Chennai covers companies and LLPs registered in the city and most of Tamil Nadu; the western districts around Coimbatore have a separate ROC office. All filing is online through the MCA V3 portal, so the office location matters only for jurisdiction, not for visits.

FormPurposeUsual due date
INC-20ADeclaration of commencement of businessWithin 180 days of incorporation
ADT-1Appointment of auditorWithin 15 days of the AGM
AOC-4Financial statementsWithin 30 days of the AGM
MGT-7 or MGT-7AAnnual returnWithin 60 days of the AGM
DPT-3Return of deposits and outstanding loans30 June each year
LLP Form 11Annual return of an LLP30 May
LLP Form 8Statement of account and solvency30 October

The AGM of a company must be held within six months of the year end, so for most companies the meeting falls by 30 September and the forms follow in October and November.

Why delays cost so much

MCA charges additional fees for each day of delay on annual forms, and the amount adds up quickly over a year or two. Separately, directors of a company that has not filed financial statements or annual returns for three continuous years can be disqualified. We see this with startups that went quiet for a while and then want to raise money or close down.

If you are still planning the company, start with our company registration service. We set up the statutory calendar on the same day the certificate of incorporation arrives, so INC-20A and the first auditor appointment do not slip.

A CA firm in Chennai that only does tax may not track these dates. Ask about it directly.

When owners usually call a CA

Some moments make it worth bringing in a Chartered Accountant rather than managing alone.

A buyer starts asking for e-invoices

When your aggregate turnover crosses Rs 5 crore in any year, B2B invoices must carry an IRN. Large OEMs in the corridor will reject bills without one, so the switch has to happen on time.

A notice arrives on the portal

Notices have strict reply dates, and an ignored notice often becomes an order with demand and penalty. Bring it to a CA the week it arrives, not the week it expires.

You plan your first export

Before the first shipment leaves the port, you need an LUT for the year, an IEC, and invoices that meet both customs and GST requirements. Fixing it afterwards is harder.

You incorporate a company

The first six months decide whether the company stays compliant. INC-20A, the first auditor, PAN-based registrations and the bank account all need attention together.

Your income gets complicated

RSUs, a house sale, rental income or a side consulting practice usually push you out of ITR-1. That is a good point to have a CA prepare the return.

What changes when a CA keeps your file

The real gain is fewer surprises. Here is what our clients notice first.

One person who knows your file

The same team handles your GST, income tax and ROC work, so nobody has to explain the business again each quarter. Questions get answered with your numbers in front of us.

No travel across the city

Chennai traffic eats an afternoon. Everything here happens on WhatsApp, email and a phone call, and you see the filed acknowledgement within minutes of filing.

Problems found before the department finds them

Monthly reconciliation catches credit mismatches, missed invoices and late supplier filings while they can still be corrected in the next return.

A fee you know in advance

We tell you the fee and the scope before starting. If something new comes up, such as a scrutiny notice, we quote it separately before doing it.

Plain explanations

You get a short note in simple English with each filing: what was filed, what tax was paid, and what is due next. No jargon you need to look up.

Documents a CA firm will ask for

Not every item applies to you. We ask only for what your entity and your work need.

Don't have everything? Send what you have on WhatsApp — our expert will tell you what's missing.

Send documents on WhatsApp
  • PAN and Aadhaar of the proprietor, partners or directors
  • GST registration certificate (REG-06) and GST portal login
  • Certificate of incorporation, MOA and AOA, or LLP agreement and partnership deed
  • Bank statements of all business accounts for the period
  • Sales and purchase invoices, or the sales and purchase registers from your software
  • Delivery challans and job work challans, if you send goods out for processing
  • Shipping bills, export invoices and bank realisation advice for exporters
  • Form 16, Form 26AS and AIS for salaried individuals
  • Previous year income tax return, computation and audited accounts
  • Professional tax registration and payment challans from the Greater Chennai Corporation
  • Any GST, income tax or MCA notice received, with its reference number

Scans or clear phone photos are fine. Share them on WhatsApp or email; we organise them into your folder and tell you if anything is missing.

How we start working with you

From the first call to the monthly routine, the steps are simple and all of them happen online.

  1. 1

    Free first call

You tell us about the business or the problem. We ask for a few documents and explain what we think needs doing. There is no charge for this call and no obligation after it.

  2. 2

    Review and written scope

We go through your returns, books or notice and send a written scope with the fee. You decide whether to go ahead. Work starts only after you confirm.

  3. 3

    Access and data collection

You share portal logins and documents on WhatsApp or email. We set up a folder for your records and a calendar of due dates specific to your entity.

  4. 4

    Filing and confirmation

We prepare the return or reply, share the draft for a quick look, and file it on the portal after your approval. The acknowledgement comes to you the same day.

  5. 5

    Monthly routine

From then on we collect data before each due date, reconcile, file and report. You get reminders well in advance, not on the last evening.

Questions Chennai clients ask us

Short, direct answers on tax and compliance across the city and Tamil Nadu.

How much does a CA firm in Chennai charge for monthly GST returns?

The fee depends on how many invoices you raise and receive each month, and on your filing frequency, monthly or quarterly. A small trader with a few dozen bills costs much less than a manufacturer with e-invoices and job work. We look at your returns on a free call and tell you the exact fee before starting.

Do I need to visit your office to work with a CA in Chennai?

No. You never need to visit. Our clients here send documents on WhatsApp, email or upload, and we discuss everything on call. Returns and replies are filed directly on the GST, income tax and MCA portals. You receive the acknowledgement on WhatsApp or email as soon as the filing goes through.

What is the GST state code for Tamil Nadu?

The GST state code for Tamil Nadu is 33, so every GSTIN issued in the city starts with 33. When you bill a buyer whose GSTIN starts with another number, the supply is generally inter-state and attracts IGST. Checking the first two digits before preparing an invoice prevents a lot of wrong tax charging.

Who collects professional tax in Chennai and when is it due?

The Greater Chennai Corporation collects professional tax inside city limits. It is levied half-yearly on income for April to September and October to March, with usual due dates of 30 September and 31 March. Employers deduct it from salaries and deposit it, and companies registered there pay their own amount separately.

Can a CA firm in Chennai handle my RSU and foreign share reporting?

Yes. We prepare ITR-2 with Schedule FA for employees holding RSUs, ESOPs or foreign bank accounts. We use your vesting and sale reports to separate salary perquisite from capital gain, report holdings for the calendar year, and file Form 67 where foreign tax was withheld abroad on dividends or on share sales.

My supplier did not file GSTR-1. Can I still claim the input tax credit?

Generally no. Credit can be claimed only when it appears in your GSTR-2B, which depends on the supplier filing GSTR-1. If you claim it anyway, the portal can flag the excess and the department may ask for reversal with interest. Follow up with the supplier and claim once it reflects.

Which ROC office handles companies registered in Chennai?

Companies and LLPs with their registered office in Chennai fall under the Registrar of Companies, Chennai. The western districts around Coimbatore have a separate ROC office. All forms such as AOC-4, MGT-7 and ADT-1 are filed online on the MCA portal, so no visit to the ROC office is needed.

Do I need an LUT before exporting goods from Chennai Port?

You need an LUT only if you want to export without paying IGST. It is filed online in Form RFD-11 for each financial year. Without it, you must pay IGST on the export and claim a refund through the shipping bill. Most regular exporters prefer the LUT route to avoid blocking working capital.

Is ITC-04 required for job work done within the city?

Yes. ITC-04 applies to every principal who sends inputs or capital goods to a job worker, whether across the street or in another state. Principals with turnover above Rs 5 crore file it half-yearly, and smaller principals file it annually. It lists goods sent, received back and supplied from the job worker.

When is the usual due date for income tax returns in Tamil Nadu?

For FY 2025-26 the due date is 31 July for ITR-1 and ITR-2 and 31 August for business or professional income without audit. Audited accounts usually have 31 October, but CBDT extended that to 21 November 2026 this year. These dates apply across India. Filing early gives you time to fix AIS mismatches calmly.

Can you reply to a GST notice from the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department?

Yes. We reply to notices issued by both the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department and the central GST offices in the city. We read the notice, list the documents needed, prepare a reasoned reply with reconciliations, and file it on the portal before the deadline. Bring the notice to us early.

What happens if my private company misses AOC-4 and MGT-7?

Additional fees start for each day of delay on both forms, and the total can become large within a year. If financial statements or annual returns remain unfiled for three continuous years, directors can be disqualified. We file the pending forms, compute the fees and bring the company back on track.

Should a salaried employee choose the new tax regime?

For many, yes. From FY 2025-26, taxable income up to Rs 12 lakh carries no tax under the new regime because of the rebate, and salaried people also get a Rs 75,000 standard deduction. If you have large home loan interest and HRA, the old regime may still work out cheaper.
